part 4
Hubermann Ermeus
In 1983 the Reagan administration
reported “A Nation at Risk” that questions the belief of public school in America. The report starts a new educational reform
that change the united states from the last century. The report define the impact and the
importance of the free market. It changed from vouchers and charter schools to
privatization of schools. The main purpose of the new education reform was to
bring in a tough academic challenges that is good for the students and their
future. Years before that there were people fighting for equality education
instead of educational reform. It was necessary that they were demanding
equality education because in the 1950s schools were more segregated than
ever. Women were treated very different
with less opportunities. The laws were still “separate but equal” in many
states.
The main focus of the era
was to bring a new educational reform which was different from the previous
one. It was to create an educational system and a curriculum that prepare student
and their families to have jobs in the driven world as things were changing at
a very fast pace. New technologies were available to students during the new
era. New business were opening which means that there are more jobs that needs
to be filled in order for thing to properly function. The old school wasn’t able
to fully prepare the students for the new world.
I concur with the “Nation
at risk” report to reform the education System in the United States because it
changes the economy hugely. It changes our education system to what it is
today. New ideas established played imported role in our children’s life. The low
standard and the quality of the education each child were receiving before puts
the country in a bad shape. The government and parents believe that it could
put the economy at risk. For the most part were blamed for the failures of not
having enough people to do jobs that were opening up for people. The new reform
main goal is to fix all the problem and prepared the students for new driven economy.
One thing I disagree with
is the home schooling. Major economic changes
in the United States occurred and United States expansion into the world
markets had a major influence on public school. Leaders and business people
viewed school as a very important aspect of making great trained and qualified
worker for new jobs, home school will have all the information that’s need for these
new jobs because they will have access to these new information. Being able to
go to school is very important, the students are able to interact with many
other people from different background.
Another one is that the
president and his people had complete control on how the changes will be made. Even
though it didn’t make any bad changes but the people; especially the student should
have a say in anything that has to do with them.
One assumption made in
text is the economy becomes more efficient when leaders and business runs on a
free market. They believe the school system
will a better one with the new reform. I assumed that public is similar to the
market and it will run like the economy is good for the people.
